Bristol Old Vic’s Wonderboy



Brief


Wonderboy was one of several productions designed for Bristol Old Vic, a retainer client at Extra Strong. Working closely with BOV’s marketing team, I created printed and digital advertising assets to support the launch of this inclusive and accessible production, which combined live creative captioning, BSL performance, traditional theatre craft, and live music.


Most of the imagery and copy was supplied by the production, including behind-the-scenes photos for the programme book. The challenge was creating a unique visual direction for the book, as each programme is custom-designed for the show.

For Wonderboy, which follows Sonny, a 12-year-old trapped in a failing education system, we turned the programme into a school notebook. The design included ruled pages, handwritten notes, scribbles, and highlighter marks creating an immersive, show-specific experience while incorporating all the supplied content.
